This is Patches the Wood Turtle.

Clemmys insculpta

This is his story:

I’m approximately 50+ years old, and all in all, I’m a pretty lucky guy! I’m one tough turtle and I have a few battle scars to prove it! Someone drilled a hole in my carapace to keep me tethered, I’ve lost my right front paw, I had a terrible accident with a motor vehicle and was rescued patched together with a pink dental acrylic patch. I’m doing really well now though.



I go out for walks around our property and I have a favourite spot for finding snails that I love to crunch. I eat a varied diet of fresh raw steak, shrimp, boiled chicken breasts, veggies, worms (yum), giant meal worms, lots of different fruit and I’ll almost do somersaults for fresh strawberries and peaches!!



We Wood Turtles are very smart. I’m always checking for new things inside the house as I have free run of the whole place. I’ll walk up and over anything, including the cats and the dog if they don’t move. I love to find a spot where the sun is shining in and I will sit and relax for a bit. I can also climb stairs, however, I have not mastered getting back down! When my human calls the kitties for treats, I’m right there, too. I’ve heard my human say that she expects me to start purring any day now.
